For years, having straight teeth meant wearing traditional metal brackets and wires. Adults and teens sometimes avoided treatment, since metal braces interfered with their overall appearance. Dr. Joseph Morris is an Invisalign® certified dentist in the Islip, NY-area. During your consultation, Dr. Morris can evaluate your mouth and advise whether the clear, removable orthodontic aligners of Invisalign® are a good option to give you a straighter, more attractive smile.
Benefits of Straighter Teeth
After orthodontic treatment, patients can enjoy improved confidence in their appearance. But well-aligned teeth also have positive oral health benefits. Straight teeth eliminate crowding, removing problem areas where plaque, tartar, and food particles can build up between teeth. In addition, straight teeth are easier to brush, floss, and keep clean, and clean teeth means fresher breath and healthier gums.
Invisalign® vs. Traditional Orthodontics
Invisalign® is a revolutionary treatment system. With custom-made, clear aligners that fit over teeth, Invisalign® applies gentle pressure to shift teeth into their ideal position. The aligners can be removed at any time, so taking them out while eating a meal, brushing and flossing, or during special occasions is simple.
Invisalign® comes with a series of aligners that advance teeth toward proper alignment over the course of 12 to 18 months, in most cases. The patient does not need to wear rubber bands, brackets, or wires with Invisalign®. Because of this, adjustment visits are not necessary, as they are with traditional metal braces. Also, patients do not experience the mouth irritation common with metal orthodontics.
Invisalign® offers the following benefits over traditional metal braces:
- Virtually invisible appearance
- Easier cleaning and care
- Faster treatment period
- More comfortable
- Fewer dental visits
- No wires, brackets, or bands
What to Expect
Most adults and teens with mild to moderate misalignment are good candidates for Invisalign®. Your gums and teeth should be in good health. Patients who wore braces earlier in life, but did not wear their retainer to maintain teeth positioning, are also good candidates for Invisalign®.
We will show you how to wear your aligners, as well as provide instructions on how to clean and take care of them.
During your visit, Dr. Morris will first evaluate your teeth and review your health history and lifestyle, to determine whether Invisalign® is a good option for your orthodontic treatment. If it is determined that Invisalign® is in your future, we will take images of your teeth and design your treatment plan. We will also provide you with an estimated length of treatment.
Your aligners will be fabricated at our partner lab. Once they are ready, you will return to our office to retrieve your first set. We will show you how to wear your aligners, as well as provide instructions on how to clean and take care of them.
